EMD Locomotive subsidiary Electro-Motive diesel locomotives (EMD) has completed the design for a high-horsepower WDG5 locomotive to operate on Indian Railways.
The design was completed by the Research Designs and Standards Organization (RDSO) and diesel locomotive Works (DLW) of Indian Railways with the support of EMD.
The diesel locomotive has a power output of 5,500bhp combined with tractive effort of 560kn, which can pull more loads at higher speed.
The WDG5 locomotive includes electronic fuel injection, radial grids and high adhesion, lightweight fabricated bogies, and has modern driver interface and crew-friendly features, such as an air conditioned cab and toilet.
